Triple Chocolate Brownies from Scratch

Brownies from Scratch #triedandtrue #brownies

I’ve got three words for you. Triple Chocolate Brownies.  From Scratch.

Okay, technically that was five words.

All you’ll need for these is one bowl.  A few ingredients.  An exorbitant amount of time…okay it’s only 30 minutes but when you start smelling them as they bake it feels like forever.

Voila.  Brownies from scratch.  Dude.  You got this.  Drop the box.

I’ve made these brownies from scratch more times than I can count.  Aside from my recipe for Buttermilk Pancakes this is a recipe I rely on.

I make them for a chocolate fix or when I need to just bake something…like baking therapy.  I’ve made them for friends who have had babies when I take a meal over.  They make fantastic bribe treats to butter up kids to do their chores.

Triple Chocolate Brownies from Scratch
Recipe type: Dessert
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 350° and line a 9x13 baking pan with parchment paper for easier removal OR spray the pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large microwave safe bowl combine the butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Heat for 30 seconds then remove and stir. Heat another 30 seconds, remove and stir, then add the cocoa powder. Stir until combined and heat another 30 seconds if necessary until the chocolate is all melted.
  3. Add the sugar and stir until combined.
  4. Add the vanilla and eggs. Beat until smooth.
  5. Stir in the baking powder and salt. Add the flour and stir until mixed.
  6. Fold in the rest of the chocolate chips.
  7. Spread evenly into the baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool slightly then lift (if using parchment paper) from the pan. Cut into squares and serve.
